We are looking for women truck drivers in Eastern Ontario!

Only 3% of truck drivers are women, we can change that. We need your help to tell the story of how it’s possible.

As a woman truck driver, you are a trailblazer and in an unique position to help other women consider truck driving as a career.

The Take the Wheel project is seeking women to share their experience (the good and the challenges). We will be producing a video of a « day in the life ».

It’s easy to become involved in this project. Here is the link to the form with a few questions.

You might get the chance to inspire women and change their lives, get to work with professional videographer/production team and have a lot of fun.

Still not sure, send us an email and we can connect takethewheel@tricountyliteracycouncil.ca

word on the road

Over the years more women are seen in truck driving roles, where at one time it was strictly a male profession. It’s a very exciting industry to be a part of. From being on the road to working behind the scenes. I’m grateful for my dynamic career.

Melanie, Employer

How many opportunities are there for young people to walk into a career with virtually guaranteed employment?  A starting salary in the range of $55,000/year, and all that after only 6 to 8 weeks of schooling? I encourage youth to explore training!

Denis, Safety Supervisor and Recruiter

For me the best thing is just getting to drive the trucks and being able to work without supervision. I like being alone in the truck and independence.

Kal, Truck Driver

There are many options available for a career in trucking. You can work as an employee or be self-employed. But the salaries are always good and you have an opportunity to travel. I love being on the road and seeing new places!”
